Avanti Quantum Di2
By Robert from Qld on 14 December 2011
I am not a professional rider; I do not work in the cycling industry; I am a cycling-commuter & have been doing so for a little under 2 years.
If you want technical specs, refer to the manufacturerâs manual, cos most of that stuff is Swahili to me.
In that less-than-2-years I have gone from a mountain-bike to an alloy flat-bar hybrid to a carbon-fibre, Ultegra-geared road-racing bike
(name withheld deliberately)
& now to the Avanti Quantum Di2.
I average about a thousand k's a month.
Each new bike has been a significant step-up from its predecessor &, to my shock & awe, given how much I love my (un-named) road-bike, this bike steps up again to a whole new level.
When I first saw a picture of it, impressed as I was with the specs, my reaction was, âyeh, OK, itâs black: nice.â
When I first walked past it in the shop, it stopped me in my tracks & I must confess to having some peculiarly impure thoughts, which I have no intention of sharing here.
This bike is NOT just black:
this bike is the Batmobile of road-bikes.
Seriously.
I had to think long & hard about shelling out 5 grand for another bike, especially as the âoldâ bike is less than a year old & has been nothing but a Joy:
I bought the Avanti the next day.
Maybe 'thinking' is not my forte ?!
So: the ride.
This thing is an assassin in a black see-through negligee.
This thing is SLEEK; it is silent, smooth & sexy.
And it flies !
No effort goes unrewarded; it responds almost psychically to every pressure & gesture.
And it does not merely defy hills; it demoralizes them ! Never have I enjoyed uphill like this.
And I am notoriously well-known for my hatred of hills.
Beware, however; it is GREEDY.
It seduces you into going quicker on the flat, hitting corners a bit harder, attacking any hill brazen enough to raise its ugly visage in challenge .
It dares you to push it & just smirks at your puny efforts, cos it KNOWS it has plenty more
