The Solo Drop is a fantastic ride. I use it mainly for my daily commute, but also to run errands or just because I feel the need to spin my wheels.
The frame has a lively geometry, which makes it great for maneouvering through traffic. But it is also steady as a rock at high speeds. As mentioned in another review it isn't the lightest frame around, but I found it to be very stiff (better than some comparable aluminium frames I've been on), which in my opinion is good for power transfer - and you need to be as efficient as possible when climbing steep hills without the luxury of gears.
The wheelset requires special mention in my opinion - these are fantastic. They are super rigid - again a good thing - and were perfectly straight out of the box. I am also quite fond of the fact that the hubs have sealed bearings and not cup & cone - not quite as free-rolling as the latter, but bearings are trouble-free and don't require constant adjustment.
The other bits of kit on this bike is pretty good too. I have grown quite fond of the bars, but I am particularly impressed by the brakes. The Tektro brakes are quite powerful, but easy to use. And sexy. The aero levers are a new model from Tektro with internal cabling, making for a very tidy appearance. I was toying with the idea of running brakeless, or at the most a front brake with a finger lever, but these aero levers are so nice looking that they are staying on.
I only have two little niggles that prevent me from giving full marks - the first is that most of the welds are perfect, but not as clean as I would have liked (I am anally retentive though in that respect). Secondly, I would have preferred that the bike came with the Sugino Messenger cranks in white, not black, as that would have really set off the colour scheme.
Overall I'm very happy with the bike and I know that I will cherish it for years to come.

I have just purchased one of these for comuting into Wellington from the Hutt for university and getting too and from work.
I fitted armadillo sport tyres with specialized airlock tubes to prevent any punctures which has so far worked amazingly well! I also put on some white shimano m520 SPD pedals and a Specialized BG indy saddle to protect the jewels. I am also running both front and rear brakes and currently have it set up with a fixed gear.
The first thing i noticed when riding the bike is how nice the cro-mo frame is to ride! Very smooth! It's definitely not the lightest bike around but is pretty good for the price point! The wheels are nice and strong and are still running true even after hitting a few pot holes.
The one thing i dont like too much is the track bars, i will probably swap these out for a normal roadie bar as they do stretch out a fair bit more. In saying this if i went for a Large (which i ride for all my other bikes) i would probably find the riding position great, so dont look just at the top tube measurement when buying. Go for the size you would go for on another bike.
Another thing i love about this bike is having the in built chain tensioners, which are really good in preventing the rear wheel slipping on the horizontal dropouts under pressure.
The gear on it is perfect for roaming around the streets and is not to bad if you are relatively fit on the hills, although when it gets really steep you really have to use some muscle! But this is all part of having a SS, it's awsome!
I cant say i have got any problems with this bike at all! i love the clean retro look! Especially with the old school removable cable guides! and the red ano makes for some nice touches.
I definitely recomended for someone that wants a simple bike to get around on or even commute!
