What a great 4 days and I am sure all that participated in the 2011 Cape to Cape MTB Race will agree! This year’s event saw record numbers with more than 800 riders participating in what is growing into one of WA’s most loved MTB Challenges.

Riding out from Cape Leeuwin on a sunny Thursday afternoon, some of WA’s most elite MTB Riders as well as many fun loving MTB addicts headed for Hamelin Bay to complete a gruelling 40km hilly and beach sand course.

Despite the sore legs and fatigue all returned on Day 2 to the Start Line in Hamelin Bay, ready to head out for another long day in the saddle with the stage finishing up at Xanadu Winery. Many commented at the finish line that they have never been so happy to see Xanadu Winery! Has that got something to do with the finish line or the amazing wines waiting at the Cellar Door?

This year also saw the introduction of the exciting Red Bull Shoot Out, held in the Pine Plantations on Friday Evening. The top guns were out on the loop track, challenging each other for the Red Bull Shoot Out title. AvantiPlus Cannington Sponsored riders Simon Hall and Catherine Norris were among the elite few chosen to compete and did the store proud, with Catherine placing 3rd in the Womens Division. Well Done Cat!

Day 3 kicked off with a chilly and early start at Xanadu Winery. The stage 3 course saw riders meandering through the beautiful Pine plantations in Margaret River before finishing up at an oasis...Colonial Brewery. There were many happy faces at the finish line!

The final and last stage, day 4, was by far the toughest for many riders who had been committed enough to ride all 4 days. With a brisk start from Colonial Brewery, the large Peloton headed out for a 60km ride to the finish line at the Dunsborough Sportsman’s Club.
